Todd W. Sigety, ISA CAPP is a Certified Appraiser of Personal Property with the International Society of Appraisers (ISA), and is a past President of the ISA Board of Directors. With a certification in Antiques and Residential Contents, a connoisseurship certificate in the Fine and Decorative Arts from George Washington University and is tested and qualified under the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), Todd is well qualified to identify and appraise a wide range of fine and decorative arts and divergent pieces of personal property. His practice additionally develops unique valuations for items that present challenges beyond the standard appraisal assignment. Todd works with clients to appraise distinct and unique objects and develops credible methodologies and value conclusions where there are few or no direct comparable properties.
Todd has appraised fine and decorative arts by such noted artists as Gilbert Stuart, Charles Willson Peale, Rembrandt Peale, Auguste Rodin, August Renoir, Fantin Latour, Robert Henri, Thomas Hart Bennton, Hermann Herzog, and Max Liebermann. He has appraised furniture by cabinetmakers such as John Shaw, Nathan Lombard, John Shearer, Anthony Quervelle, John and Thomas Seymour and Gillows of England to name, just a few. Todd has appraised and evaluated property and consulted on collections for banks, state and U.S. courts, insurance companies, attorneys, private collections, the U.S. Congress, the U.S. State Department, the U.S. Marine Corp, Historic Annapolis, US Customs, Dumbarton House, and Mt. Vernon, and he has acted as an appraisal umpire in a court settlements and civil disputes.
Todd is a noted author, public speaker and online publisher for art market trends and appraising. He developed, edited and contributed articles to the Journal of Advanced Appraisal Studies, published by the Foundation for Appraisal Education. Todd publishes the Appraiser Workshops blog which reports on appraisal news and art market trends. He is a past feature article writer on antique furniture with the Antiquer, a fine art and antiques magazine.
Todd has often been recognized within his profession. He is a recipient of numerous International Society of Appraiser awards including the ISA President’s Award, multiple Leadership Awards, several important Lamp of Knowledge Awards, and publication and media awards. Todd served on the ISA board of directors from 2008-2013, the executive committee as Treasurer from 2008 to 2011 and as president from 2011 to 2013. He currently serves on the Appraisal Foundation’s Advisory Council which advises the Appraisal Foundation on appraisals standards, best practices and qualifications.
Todd is a partner in the Appraiser Workshops, developing appraisal related courses and educational opportunities for practicing appraisers. Mr, Sigety is a second generation antique and fine art dealer. He operated two antique galleries in Old Town Alexandria and displayed at select mid Atlantic area antique shows. Washington Square Antiques specialized period American and English furniture, fine art and decorative accessories. Todd closed his shops in 2014 in order to focus on full time appraisal and valuation service opportunities.
With a diverse background in banking and business, including attending the Virginia Bankers School of Bank Management at the University of Virginia, and many years of experience in the fine and decorative arts field, Todd and WSA Appraisals are uniquely qualified to execute professional written appraisals and opinions of value on fine and decorative art for insurance, estates, charitable donations, gifts, damage claims and equitable distributions.
