About
An accomplished Senior Museum Leader, Helen holds over 25 years of museological expertise in curation, collection management, collection acquisitions, and exhibition development and production. Her areas of expertise lie with fine art, decorative arts, contemporary fine craft and museum artifacts. She has strong knowledge of prairie, west coast, and Indigenous (including Inuit) art markets and artists, but is also well positioned to work on national and international appraisal assignments due to her considerable professional network.
Helen works with museums, art galleries, and corporations providing professional assistance with Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board and Charitable donation appraisals, collections management, interpretive planning and curation. For private clients, Helen provides appraisal services including estate appraisals, insurance valuations, and consults on collection growth and refinement (including the selling/donating of assets). She serves clients from across Canada.
Helen holds Masters degrees in Fine & Decorative Arts (Sotheby's Institute, London) and Art History, Islamic Art (University of Victoria, British Columbia). Until Summer 2022, she was Director, Exhibitions for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada), one of Canada's national museums. Before joining the CMHR in September 2014, Helen was Chief Curator at the Winnipeg Art Gallery. She has since relocated to her hometown of Victoria, BC.
Helen is an Accredited Member, International Society of Appraisers and has completed the required coursework for Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice.
