I am a graduate of the ISA Core Course as well as the ISA Specialty Course in Fine Art. I have an emphasis in Fine Art, Antiques, Vintage Cars, and General Household Contents (silver, coins, etc.).  My company "Art Mode Appraisals" is based in South Lake Tahoe.  We are happy to travel to meet your needs.  I was an Art Conservation Science Fulbright Scholar in Florence, Italy in 2003-2004, where I studied the Italian methodology in non-destructive art conservation science.  Based on my wonderful time in Italy, I concluded I did not want to be a scientist, although I was very successful in that field (having also worked at the LACMA and the Getty in LA).  I knew I was looking for something that would allow me to work with people and be more creative.  Since 2006 I have run my own business successfully.  I know that my time running a business for over a decade, my experience at contemporary art galleries, fine art frame shops, conservation science labs, plus my education at Sotheby's Institute in London and the University of Southern California have well prepared me for running my ultimate business in fine art appraising.  This field is a great combination of skills:  an unyielding passion for art, a sharp mind, an organized work ethic, great customer care, a strong artistic eye, an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a total dedication to getting the job done thoroughly, impartially, and ethically.  I truly look forward to working with you for all your personal property needs!

Higher Education

International Society of Appraisers:  Fine Arts Specialty Course        June 2021

The Fine Arts Specialty Course was not just an art history course.  In fact, we covered 40,000 years of art history on the first day!  After that we dove into the making of various forms of art.  We learned what materials go into making a sculpture, a painting, a print, or an assemblage.  We also covered the history of frames and photography, and discussed proper due diligence and research methods for art appraising.  It was a fantastic course with incredible teachers.  Our final test was both a multiple choice and practical exam, where we had to write an insurance report that was 25 pages long.  I am thrilled to be an ISA Accredited Member!

International Society of Appraisers:  Core Course in Appraising       Dec 2018

The Core Course covers Appraisal Theory, Insurance Costs, Market Reactions, Market Forces, Scope of Work, Identification and Authentication, Market Research and Analysis, Insurance Coverage and Claims, US Federal Tax Functions, Equitable Distrubutions, Liquidation, Bankruptcy, Code of Ethics, USPAP, and Basic Appraiser Techniques.

Sotheby’s Institute of Art:  Art and Its Markets - London, UK        July 2016

Art and Its Markets involved an immersive education in the art and art business world in London.  By attending auctions, visiting art fairs, and discussing the current state of the contemporary and old masters art markets, we gained a working knowledge of the international business of art.  Topics included authenticity, the value of art, conservation, gallery tiers, corporate art practices, art as investment, art price databases and art law.

University of Southern California - Bachelors of Science , Los Angeles , CA     1999-2003

Major in Chemistry and Art History:  General, organic, inorganic, physical chemistry classes along with calculus and physics.  In addition, art history courses in feminist art, contemporary art, renaissance art and ancient art.  Senior focus was on art conservation science practices in LACMA and the Getty conservation labs.  Received the Renaissance Award for outstanding scholarship upon graduation with Honors, as well as the Fulbright Fellowship in Florence, Italy.
