About

Richelle Kokol has been working in the Art Market for over a decade. She started studying Chinese language and culture at the age of 12. While attending Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas, she traveled to and from Shanghai, China, both as a student at Fudan University and then as an Intern and Gallery Assistant at ShanghART Gallery, where she also translated exhibition materials and publications.

After graduating early with two bachelors of arts in Chinese Language and Art History, Richelle moved to New York City where she worked with Tarisio Auctions, a high-end auction house specializing in stringed instruments and their bows. Having played music herself growing up, the music-meets-art-market world felt just like home. At Tarisio she started out as a receptionist, and while maintaining her duties as such, helped out in other areas including database management and market analytics.

A move to Washington, DC placed her with The Potomack Company, a generalist auction house in historic Alexandria. Here Richelle worked in the Asian Works of Art and Decorative Arts departments as an assistant cataloger, then later also as Assistant to the CEO, helping to oversee general operations. Richelle was always in charge of any musical instruments that came through the doors, most often pianos, and also managed all Chinese clients and Chinese phone bidding. It was here that she joined ISA and started her formal training as a personal property appraiser.

Finally, after a move to Texas, Richelle started work under Generalist and Asian Works of Art expert, Lark Mason at Lark Mason Associates and Lark Mason Art Advisory. While continuing to act as an auction manager, she began to hone her appraisal skills. Richelle started to work on all formal appraisal projects, and oversaw the build of a new Appraisals Database.

Now, still with Lark Mason Associates/Lark Mason Art Advisory, Richelle is Managing Director, Appraisals and continues to oversee consignments, auction scheduling and operations, as well as client relations.

During the pandemic, Richelle worked with multiple fine arts groups, organizations, and fairs to coordinate and run webinars that connected arts professionals, students, and hobbyists around the world.

Richelle is glad to speak about how she and Lark Mason Associates/Art Advisory can assist.
