Adam Muhlig has been active as an independent appraiser of literary materials, including books, original manuscripts, letters, photographs, works on paper, fine art and other archival materials, for over fifteen years. His clients include authors, composers, performers, libraries, archives, galleries, and other private and public educational institutions throughout the United States. 


Among the many collections Muhlig has appraised are the literary and personal papers of the former United States Poets Laureate Ted Kooser, William Jay Smith and W. S. Merwin. He has also assessed the John Fitzgerald Kennedy assassination archive of Gary T. Cornwell, Deputy Counsel House Select Committee on Assassinations; the law library of the noted lawyer and lexicographer Bryan A. Garner; the archives of the literary historian and critic Joseph Parisi, longtime editor of Poetry, the archives of former Columbia Records President, David Oppenheim donated to The Library of Congress; The American Radio and Television Script Library; the archives of Pace/MacGill Gallery; the archive of Major General Spurgeon Neel who pioneered aeromedical evacuation of battlefield casualties; and work for the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation.


Other important appraisals include major literary collections and documents for the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin; the University of Chicago; the Gerald and Barbara Weiner Ethiopic Manuscript Collection at the University of California at Los Angeles.


Mr. Muhlig is a member of the Caxton Club and the Society of American Archivists, and has completed advanced course work in appraisal theory at Northwestern University and the University of Texas at Austin. Adam was Director of Rare Books and Manuscripts at Leslie Hindman Auctioneers. He also serves on the Advisory Council for the Harry Ransom Center at the University of Texas at Austin.
