Jeff is an elite certified sports memorabilia appraiser.  He is recognized as the “go-to expert” in sports memorabilia collecting and appraising.  He is often referred to as the “guru” in the field.  He has appraised sports memorabilia items for museums such as the Smithsonian African American History and Culture Museum as well as items of private collectors.  In addition to appraising sports memorabilia, he is an expert in appraising pop culture, historical, political and Americana items as well as rare books and documents.  He is often asked to be an expert witness in legal cases regarding appraising and collecting. Jeff is an IRS qualified appraiser and prepares appraisals following the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice established by the Appraisal Foundation in 1989.

Jeff Figler is the author of six books on collectibles, including Collecting for Beginners and Collectible Wisdom. His latest book, Picker’s Pocket Guide to Baseball Memorabilia, was published by Krause Publications in December 2014. It has been #1 on Amazon’s Sports Memorabilia category. It is also available at some Major League Baseball team stores as well as the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown.

 Jeff has authored over 600 published articles about sports, pop culture and historical/presidential collecting. He is a former sports columnist for the St. Louis Dispatch, STL Today, and has written for the San Diego Union-Tribune. In addition, his articles appear regularly in Sports Collectors Digest, Basketball Times, and other magazines in the collectibles field. He has written for SportsBusiness Journal and Bottom Line Personal as well.  He has been the Collectibles Editor for Hall of Fame Media and a syndicated radio talk show host through Sports Byline, heard by millions of people in 173 countries on the American Forces Network.

Jeff is a Professional Certified Sports Memorabilia Appraiser, having successfully passed the USPAP (Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice) exam. He is a Certified Member of the Appraisers Association of America (AAA) as well as an Accredited Member with the International Society of Appraisers (ISA). Jeff is a graduate from Arizona State University with a BA and an MBA. He also has a law degree. Jeff attended New York University and received a certificate in appraisal studies. 

Jeff is the director of Jeff Figler’s Sports Appraisals & Consulting. Jeff Figler’s Sports Appraisals & Consulting prepares written appraisals specializing in sports memorabilia for insurance coverage, charitable donations, and estate tax liability. 

Jeff has appraised items for high profile individuals, as well as for museums, universities, insurance companies, and attorneys. He is also a sports memorabilia appraiser consultant for such appraisal companies as Kersten’s Antiques, Pall Mall Art Advisors, Gurr Johns, and Rago Arts & Auction Center and for insurance companies, such as State Farm, AIG, Chubb, PURE, and Hartford. Jeff has worked very closely with SCP Auctions, Heritage Auctions, The National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum, the Texas Sports Hall of Fame Museum, and many others.  Jeff has performed appraisals for the MGM Grand Casino, Boston Children’s Hospital, Detroit Red Wings, The Los Angeles Yacht Club and others.  In addition, Jeff has appraised a 2 ½ million sports card collection, which is believed to be the second largest card collection in the United States. 

Jeff has appraised the T-206 Honus Wagner card, which is recognized as the “Holy Grail” of sports cards.

In addition, he has appraised the highest-graded, at the time, of the 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 rookie card from a private collector.

Jeff has appraised the Action Comics #1 from June 1938, which is the first appearance of Superman.

In June 2016, Jeff appraised the highest-graded 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 rookie card from a private collector. He has also appraised the collection of John Lee Hooker, one of the greatest Rhythm and Blues (R&B) performers of all time.
