About

Distinguished Appraiser of Fine Art and Estate Property
Having grown up in a family of notable art collectors, Kirsten Hammer Dueck has been honing her eye from an early age.  Combined with extensive professional and academic training, a meticulous attention to detail, a wide ranging knowledge of fine and decorative arts, and a sensitivity to the sometimes thorny issues of family assets and appraisals, her work has been highly valued by museums, foundations and private collectors alike.
When she was recruited to lead Sotheby’s Latin American Department at the age of 30, Kirsten became the company’s youngest Department Director in North America and one of only a handful of women worldwide to head a paintings department at an international auction house. From 2001-2005 she oversaw a string of record-setting auctions, including the sale of property from the estate of Bill Blass, the estate of Stanley Marcus, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.  She has valued countless private and institutional collections in Mexico, South America, Europe and the United States.
With the launch of her own appraisal and art consulting practice,Tangible Good, Kirsten brings her artworld expertise closer to home, working with families and their estate advisors to appraise and coordinate art-related investments, estate planning and probate, home inventory and cataloguing, asset distribution, donations, insurance matters, personal property and fine art in the home.  Ms. Dueck collaborates with a network of insurance agents, auctioneers, appraisers, attorneys, realtors and advisors specializing in estate services.
Kirsten earned a Master's Degree in Art and Archaeology from Princeton University, and studied Art History at Wesleyan University, UCLA and the Instituto Ortega y Gasset in Toledo, Spain.  She has published and lectured widely and her work has been featured by the New York Times, Washington Post, Wall Street Journal, BBC, Financial Times, NPR’s Morning Edition, Art & Auction, and Reuters. Since moving to the Piedmont region of Virginia in 2006, she has served on the Boards of Directors of the Catholic Business Network of Northern Virginia and Dulles Rotary, and on the Board of Advisors to the Northern Virginia Community Foundation. She is licensed as an auctioneer by the Commonwealth of Virginia (VA Auctioneer #3684).
