Description
Russian icons are fascinating objects, reflecting centuries of religious tradition, artistic style, and cultural history. With their symbolic imagery, spiritual depth, unique qualities, and broad value spectrum, Russian icons have wide appeal and are found in many collections.
In this session, we’ll cover icon basics, including anatomy and terminology, a brief history, and the key characteristics that influence value. We’ll also look at common icon subjects and their variations, along with tips for spotting traditional icons versus modern reproductions. After the presentation, Elizabeth will share the illustrated PowerPoint for future reference, along with a few additional resources.
