Description
In all areas of expertise, it takes years to accumulate the knowledge to be able to accurately
appraise personal property. Oriental and specialty rugs are particularly daunting as there are
few resources to learn identification and dating. This two-hour webinar covers how rugs are
identified, conditions affecting value and the current state of the rug market. The purpose of
this class is to know what to look for when you are on-site and how to photograph to submit
information for consultation.
Beyond the Pattern: Appraising the True Value of Oriental Rugs is an introduction to oriental and specialty rug construction, conditions, and photography for professional personal property appraisers.
Presented by Ellen Amirkhan, ISA CAPP. Ellen is President of Dallas’ historic Oriental Rug Cleaning Co., a business started by her grandfather in 1911 that specializes in cleaning, repairing, appraising and selling oriental and area rugs. A Past President of Association of Specialists in Cleaning and Restoration and the North Texas Chapter of the International Society of Appraisers, Ellen holds the designations of Certified Rug Specialist and Certified Appraiser of Personal Property from the International Society of Appraisers. Ellen develops and teaches oriental rug schools for the International Society of Appraisers and other recognized trade groups across the United States, Canada, the U.K. and Australia. She is a co-developer of the Master Rug Cleaner Program, co-author of A Comprehensive Guide to Oriental and Specialty Rug Cleaning and the video series Unraveling the Riddle of Rug Identification, a founding member of the Association of Rug Care Specialists and serves as an expert witness for the legal profession.
