Happy New Year (and New Decade), ISA!

Happy New Year (and New Decade), ISA!

Friday, January 3, 2020 in News

This year, we not only get to wish each other a Happy New Year but a Happy New Decade as well. This is definitely not the first new decade any of us will celebrate, but it does encourage one to pause and think not only about 2019, but about the last ten years. What a decade it was for the growth of ISA! Our organization is stronger than ever and well situated to begin the next ten years of progress as a leader in the field of professional appraising.

ISA's success is due to our excellent, hardworking volunteers and staff. We are fortunate to have all our current and past committee and chapter members, especially the chairs, chapter presidents and board members, who do so much for the organization. We also can't forget those members who serve outside our organization promoting our profession as a whole. Please accept a heartfelt thanks from everyone in ISA who benefits from your dedication.

Some highlights of the last ten years include:

Looking forward to 2020, we can expect more changes as new classes are developed, new locations for onsite classes are explored, the benefits of ABP exchanges improve mutual experiences, the organization continues to embrace technology to better meet the needs of our members, and ISA's reputation for preparing highly trained, professional appraisers becomes better known to the public.

If you are familiar with the Chinese zodiac, 2020 is the year of the rat. The rat symbolizes the beginning of a new day as well as wealth and surplus. I'd like to take advantage of my position to make 2020 the "Year of the Volunteer" and wish for a wealth of new committee members with fresh ideas and a surplus of energy who want to help propel ISA to even more success. Please consider visiting a committee meeting or two during Assets to find out where your gifts can be shared. You may also visit the Leadership page to see a list of committees with contact information for each chairperson. Don't hesitate to reach out to share ideas or volunteer! It's a great way to get to know other members and build your resume.

The highlight of every year is the chance to gather with colleagues at Assets, our Annual Conference. This year, you are invited to Denver from April 24-27 to "Take the High Road in Appraising." Whether you enjoy attending conference for the chance to explore a new city with like-minded friends on one of the Specialty Tours, take classes with the convenience of being onsite at the host hotel, network with appraisers from around the world, or dive deeper into issues and connoisseurship relevant to your appraisal practice, there is something for you at Assets 2020. Don't forget to RSVP for the fabulous Foundation for Appraisal Education Gala on Sunday night! Visit the full program for more information about the outstanding speakers and events.

On behalf of the ISA Board of Directors, best wishes for a happy and prosperous new decade!

President, International Society of Appraisers
