The Modernism Design class will give students basic skills to appraise 20th – 21st century design. It will provide analysis of key designers and manufacturers of furniture and decorative arts. The course will cover historical context, social economics, materials, technology, and design movements. Primary and secondary markets for modernism to contemporary design will be explored, with appraisal approaches for fair market value, and replacement value. Case studies of designers, artists, and architects will be examined to show the connections and contrasts of design cultures in Europe, the Americas, and the impact of the global design aesthetic.
The course has two classroom days that take place from 8am - 5pm and has a tour on the first day.
*All cancellations and transfer requests must be in writing and received two weeks (14 days) prior to the first date of the class. All cancellations and transfer requests are subject to up to a $100 fee based on course cost. Distance Education course material must be returned before a refund of the remaining tuition will be sent.
Refunds or credits will not be given for failure to attend, late arrival, flight/transportation cancellations, unattended events or early departure. In the rare event of a course cancellation, ISA is not responsible for nor will provide refunds for costs associated with travel, airfare, hotel or transportation costs incurred by the registered attendee.
