I have an oil painting of Beatrice Cenci. It was hand carried by my grandfather on a ship from Italy in the 1920's-1930's. Don't know much more about it, but would love to learn more. Contact me at e-mail tlbrk1955@yahoo.com
Please help me find out about an oil painting that I have. I believe it to be Beatrice Cenci. It was brought over from Italy by my grandparents. They hand carried it on the ship. Probably 1920's-1930-s. It is now hanging in our restaurant in Omaha, NE. and has been since our opening in 1944. Grandparents deceased and we know nothing more. Help?

Debbie,
I'm an appraiser of fine arts living in Memphis (Germantown). I would gladly assist you with an appraisal, but I cannot authenticate this work for you. However, I can recommend someone for you to talk with. Victor Coonin is a professor of art at Rhodes College and his area of specialty is Italian painting. In fact, he's involved with the forthcoming Kress symposium at the Brooks Museum this fall (very soon, I believe)discussing the Romanino painting in the museum's collection. Perhaps he will look at the painting and recommend someone who could authenticate it if he cannot.
If you'd like to talk with me more about it, please email me or give me a call. 901-233-3099.
Thanks,
Dana Holland-Beickert
Dr. Richard Spear, a retired Professor of Art History at Oberlin College now living in Washington, D.C., is an expert on Guido Reni; he is a consultant for many museums on artists of this period. But as John Buxton writes, do you want an authentication, which would probably require hiring whoever you find as a expert to come view the painting, or more likely, have the painting shipped away to be tested and authenticated? Or is there another purpose behind the inquiry? Whatever the purpose, this will be expensive if you need a definitive authentication answer, presuming that one can be agreed upon by various experts. Hi,
I have a Harold Newton painting and am wondering whom I might get to appraise it.
Have antique paintings of A. Vigand and H. Giraud in large gold leaf frames. Have pictures to send by e-mail. What is the fee to appraise these paintings. Purchased at NYC auction in 1980 for $5500 each. mjeepw1@cox.net Also V.Syracuse painting. All appear to be restored.
